# Bittensor staking

> Stake TAO to the root network or to a specific subnet, both requiring a validator hotkey and a subnet ID, with no unbonding period.

Stake TAO on Bittensor to the root network or to an individual subnet. Both yields require a validator (hotkey) and a subnet ID; the ID's value is what distinguishes root staking from subnet staking.

## Enter and exit

Both yields take `amount`, a required `validatorAddress` (the validator's hotkey), and a required `subnetId`. Root staking only accepts `subnetId` 0; subnet staking only accepts a `subnetId` greater than 0, and the request fails if the ID does not match the yield's scope. Exit follows the same arguments and settles immediately since neither yield has an unbonding period.
