# Vaults & OAVs

> The three yield.xyz-owned vault families: OAVs, Sentinel Vaults, and Meta Vaults, and how they differ from third-party protocol vaults.

yield.xyz operates its own ERC-4626 vault contracts that wrap yield strategies with configurable fees. OAVs hold one fixed strategy; Sentinel Vaults and Meta Vaults run on a contract whose strategies can be paused, replaced or reweighted by role holders. You configure these yield.xyz-owned vaults in the dashboard; they are not a direct integration with a third-party protocol's vault.

## The three families

| Meta Vaults | Allocates one deposit across multiple strategies in a single vault, rebalanced over time | [Meta Vaults](/documentation/platform/vaults/meta-vaults/index) |

In all three, users hold ERC-4626 vault shares and deposits route into the vault's configured strategies. Role holders operate the vault (harvesting, pausing, and for Meta and Sentinel Vaults, reallocating between strategies); see [Roles and signing models](/documentation/platform/vaults/meta-vaults/vault-mechanics/roles-signing-models).

## Ownership boundary

This section covers vault contracts yield.xyz deploys and operates on your behalf. To enter a third-party protocol's own vault, such as a Morpho or Yearn vault, use a normal DeFi yield: see [Earn › DeFi › Vaults](/documentation/earn/defi/vaults/index).

## Configuring and monitoring vaults

OAVs, Sentinel Vaults, and Meta Vaults are all requested and configured per project in the dashboard, and yield.xyz deploys and maintains the underlying contracts. See the [dashboard guide](/guides/dashboards/meta-vaults) for the configuration and monitoring walkthrough.
