Strategies often pay part of their yield as separate incentive tokens instead of compounding it into the position automatically. Left alone, these tokens accumulate as a separate balance: someone has to claim them, swap them into the vault’s underlying asset, and redeposit the proceeds. Automatic off-ramping is yield.xyz’s recurring job that does this for you, so users see consolidated yield in their original deposit asset without anyone claiming rewards by hand.

How it works

  1. yield.xyz’s job discovers reward distributions claimable by the vault from its strategy’s reward programs.
  2. It calls the vault’s whitelisted claim function, which pulls the reward tokens into the vault and forwards them to the vault’s registered reward-forwarding address.
  3. Once a reward token’s accumulated value clears a minimum threshold, the job swaps it into the vault’s underlying asset through a DEX aggregator, walking a slippage tolerance ladder to get the tightest workable quote.
  4. It deposits the swapped underlying directly into the strategy with the vault set as the recipient. This raises the strategy shares the vault holds without minting new vault shares, so every existing holder’s share price increases.

Trust model

  • Claiming is on-chain and role-gated: only a wallet holding the vault’s harvester role can call the claim function, and it only accepts contract targets and function selectors the vault admin has explicitly whitelisted.
  • The swap and redeposit steps run on a recurring schedule operated by yield.xyz. No signature or action is required from you or your users.
  • Reward tokens below a minimum USD threshold are left to accumulate rather than swapped immediately, since a very small swap can cost more in fees and slippage than it recovers.
If you need to control claiming and reinvestment yourself instead of relying on yield.xyz’s job, see manual reward claiming.
