By default, yield.xyz’s automated job claims and reinvests an OAV’s incentive tokens on a recurring schedule. The underlying claim mechanism is a vault-level role and a configurable forwarding address, and both can instead be held by you, so claiming and reinvestment happen on your own schedule and through your own signing setup rather than yield.xyz’s job.

What determines automatic vs. manual

Two settings on the vault decide this: If yield.xyz holds both, off-ramping is automatic. If you hold both instead, claiming and reinvestment are entirely under your control, on whatever cadence and signing process your own wallet uses.

The claim and reinvest cycle

1

Claim rewards

The wallet holding the harvester role calls the vault’s claim function against a whitelisted target and reward token. Only targets and function selectors the vault admin has explicitly whitelisted can be called this way. Claimed tokens transfer to the vault’s registered forwarding address.
2

Swap to the underlying asset

You swap the claimed reward tokens into the vault’s underlying asset through whatever venue you choose.
3

Deposit into the strategy

Deposit the swapped underlying into the vault’s strategy, with the OAV contract set as the recipient of the resulting strategy shares.
Because the deposit in step 3 credits the vault directly, it raises the strategy shares the vault holds without minting new vault shares, so every existing holder’s share price increases. No step here requires a user’s signature.
The claim function reverts on any target or selector that has not been added to the vault’s whitelist by its admin, so a harvester wallet cannot route rewards through arbitrary contracts.

The default: yield.xyz runs this cycle for you.
